Chris Cassidy

National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation
Christopher J. Cassidy was born in Salem, Massachusetts on January 4, 1970 and considers nearby York, Maine, where he grew up, to be his hometown. Captain Cassidy received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1993 and received a Master of Science in Ocean Engineering from the MIT. He has Honorary PhD’s from Husson University and the University of Maine at Augusta.
Captain Cassidy is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL. During his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star with combat ‘V’, he received a second Bronze Star for combat leadership service in Afghanistan and the platoon he commanded was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. In 2004, Cassidy was selected as an astronaut. He is a veteran of three space flights, ten space walks, and has accumulated 377 days in space. In 2015 he became NASA’s 14th Chief Astronaut and served in the capacity for two years. In August 2021, the Board of Directors for the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation selected Chris Cassidy to be President and CEO, where he now leads the project to build the iconic Museum, Monument, and Institute.

MSgt Lind was born and raised in northwestern Pennsylvania and is a 1989 graduate from Titusville area High School, attending boot camp immediately following graduation at Parris Island, SC. He attended the Marine Combat Training and School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, attaining the initial MOS of 0311 (infantry), and was then assigned to India Co 3/7 stationed at 29 Palms, CA, acting as the platoon RTO. While with this unit, he made his first deployment to Okinawa and to the Philippine Islands and eventually deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in support of Task Force Grizzly and Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
June 14th 2007, while on his third deployment to Iraq, GySgt Lind’s vehicle struck and activated a pressure plate IED. The blast from the device amputated his legs from the knee down. Promoted to his final rank, Master Sergeant Lind continued his road to recovery while filling duties as Operations Chief, A Co, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. Master Sergeant Lind’s Personal awards include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, the Naval Achievement Medal with Combat “V” and 4 Gold Stars and the Combat Action Ribbon with 2 Gold Stars. Additionally, he is a Military freefall Jumpmaster, a Combatant Dive Master, and a Marine Scout Sniper.
